If you’re after smoother, firmer and more youthful looking skin, laser resurfacing is the treatment you need to know. Of course, before you go ahead and book an appointment, you’ll probably want to know things like how it works and what it feels like. So, to help you decide whether or not this treatment is for you, we’ve created a complete guide to laser resurfacing.

What is laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing is a low-risk skin treatment that harnesses the power of photoacoustic technology to promote collagen production. By doing so, this treatment can dramatically improve the appearance of skin.

For the best results, a series of treatments is recommended. These sessions are quick and comfortable and can suit most people, regardless of age or skin type.

How does laser resurfacing work?

At MySkin Laser Clinics, we use a MedLite C6 laser for facial resurfacing. The MedLite C6 is an advanced laser that utilises safe, photoacoustic technology to penetrate the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen. The process works by using waves of energy to vibrate skin fibres and promote superior collagen rebuilding.

What are the benefits of laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing offers a variety of skin benefits and can be used to target a range of specific skin problems. In particular, it is proven to boost collagen, creating tighter, firmer and younger looking skin. However, it can also help reduce fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, scars, blemishes, congestion, age spots, and uneven skin tone.

To help you get the most out of laser resurfacing, we offer a selection of treatments to meet different needs. Our Express Laser Facial is designed for younger skin and provides deep cleansing to remove blackheads and clear congestion. Our Advanced Laser Facial includes additional spot treatment to target freckles, age spots and other pigmentation problems. We also offer a Laser Toning Facial to reverse existing skin damage and a Laser Peel Treatment to treat severely sun-damaged skin.

How many laser resurfacing treatments are needed?

At MySkin Laser Clinics, we provide non-ablative laser resurfacing, which enhances the skin without removing any layers. The process is gradual and typically requires four to six treatments spaced one to four weeks apart. However, many clients like to schedule ongoing treatments every one to three months to incorporate laser resurfacing into their regular skincare routine.

For superior and longer lasting results, you can team laser resurfacing with another treatment, such as microdermabrasion or a vitamin infusion.

What does laser resurfacing feel like?

How laser resurfacing feels can depend on the type of laser used, the treatment area and your pain tolerance.

At MySkin Laser Clinics, we provide non-ablative laser facial resurfacing using a MedLite C6 laser. As the laser passes through the skin without removing any layers, it causes little to no pain. So, many clients only experience a tingling sensation throughout the treatment. For highly sensitive skin types, a topical numbing cream may be used to reduce any discomfort.

Ablative laser treatments, which remove the outer layers of skin, are available in some places. However, these treatments can require local anaesthetic injections or sedation to manage discomfort and pain. These kinds of treatments may be suitable for serious skin concerns, but can be too invasive for regular treatments.

Is laser resurfacing safe?

At MySkin Laser Clinics, our laser resurfacing treatments are performed by trained and experienced therapists. The process is extremely safe and suitable for all skin colours.

Following treatment, some redness may occur, which should fade within an hour. However, you should avoid sun exposure for two weeks.
